Cloth Diapers

In ancient times, babies wore dresses in animal skins and leaf wraps. The Intuits made diapers out of sealskin and moss. A diaper or a nappy is an absorbent garment worn by people who may find it a problem to control their bowel and bladder movement. An adult diaper is used to control and absorb bowel materials and thus keep the wearer dry. It absorbs moisture and regulates waste and thus keeps the wearer dry.

Many people face inconvenience due to problems with bowel movements. They use adult diapers. The elderly is also included among these adults. Also included are those with a physical or mental disability and people working in extreme conditions like astronauts. Astronauts have to spend hours in cramped up conditions in space shuttles or in outer space and they need to use adult diapers to avoid the problem of urinating and passing waste at particular times. Diapers are usually not worn for choice. Sometimes, when the diaper becomes full and can no longer contain any more waste matter it has to be changed by a parent or a caregiver. In these cases the diaper for adults comes in very useful. Sometimes people have to wear a diaper due to incontinence.

The case may be so that it does not become possible for a person to retain urine in his bladders for a great deal of time. Pregnant women need to urinate frequently and could decide to make use of adult diapers. There are several patients who have just undergone surgery and have to remain bed ridden for quiet a long time. They may need to wear the adult diapers. There may also be several people who for whatever reasons cannot access the urinals. Sometimes diapers may lead to embarrassing problems. The one who is wearing the diaper may be embarrassed because of the diapers. That is why in case of the adults, they are often called as the incontinence pads and not the nappies or diapers.

Adult diapers can be made of cloth or disposable materials. Diapers are made of layers of terry toweling and can be washed and used any number of times. But the disposable diaper contains absorbent chemicals and can be thrown away after use. A person can use disposable or cloth diapers. Presently disposable diapers are the most commonly in use with Pampers and Huggies being the leading brands.

Astronauts use diapers during take-off which are trunk like. They are called MAGs or maximum absorbency garments. On space missions the astronauts receive three diapers for their use.

A watchman's urinal is when guards cannot leave the place they are guarding and wear an adult diaper. They have to be there on duty not leave their post. There are also several of the inmates of death row who wear ‘execution diapers' to collect their body fluids. People who dive wear diapers for adults under their diving suits. Pilots also wear them on long flights. Some professional weightlifters use it when they are weightlifting as the weight often cause them to urinate involuntarily. Adult diapers are used for various reasons.
