Cloth Diapers

Diapers are folded pieces of mainly cloth that are used to cover the abdomen of babies after they are born. They are very useful for the proper care of the baby and need to be chosen with care. The comfort, safety and hygiene of the baby need to be looked into. It has to be comfortable for the baby and must be safe from diseases, rashes and allergies in it.

A diaper is something a baby will always need. So, the mother has to choose it carefully. They are of two types – cloth diapers and synthetic or disposable diapers. Synthetic or disposable diapers are not as eco friendly as cloth diapers are. The former type is non biodegradable and when found in a landfill takes around 500 years to decompose while a cloth diaper takes only 6 months to decompose. There are wool diapers too for the winter season.

They are used to tend babies and the proper choice of diaper goes a long way in ensuring comfort for your child. Babies have no control over their bodily functions, so, a diaper which is more comfortable and safe is the right choice. From synthetic diapers harmful chemicals are released like xylene, isopropyl benzene, styrene, ethyl benzene and toluene. They were also found to cause respiratory problems after experiments with mice were carried out on them. Cloth diapers were not found to cause these problems. They were found to cause infant respiratory distress. These chemicals can cause harm to the baby's skin. Very often, it is found that the baby develops allergy or skin rashes due to the effect of the diapers on the skin.

Now a days diapers made of cloth are available that are provided with snaps or hooks and loops. Earlier they had to be pinned or hooked. Synthetic diapers also have the same facilities on them. Cloth diapers are also much cheaper than synthetic diapers. Today, there is a biodegradable paper lining attached to most cloth diapers. This paper lining catches solid waste and is easily disposable in the toilet. The baby feels when he or she is wet or dirty and and thus match the feeling or sense of elimination.

Diapers are ascertained based on the comfort level and the safety the baby gets. Some of the accessories that go with it are bio soft flushable liners, carbon filters, citrus circles, diaper pails, etc. The liners are placed on top of the diapers and flushed with the solids down the toilet. The carbon filters fit into the diaper pail and are an effective way of elimination odors. A citrus circle is a disk that fits the deodorizing disk slot of any diaper pail. A diaper pail is a bucket that holds diapers. All these accessories are readily available in the market.
